Margo P! I'd seen the movie tens of times before I sat down to read the novella upon which the film is based, ready to highlight all my favorite quotations when they came up. One more place in the film makes it quite different from the book.Aging everyone and trying to keep each of them straight would likely be challenging so having one warden solves that problem. That one main difference was a man named Andy Dufresne. I understand why Darabont would do this. Such a change of one of the main characters reveals the difference in views of the writer and the director on Norton and his personality.
Neither the story or the film shy away from the darker side of prison life; there are beatings and rapes, will be one of the next ones Xhawshank do, the very people who are meant to be restoring order and helping to reform the characters of the prisoners.
