At the time of reading I was six and had, maybe sliiiiightly bittersweet, a late-bloomer. Though in this case, and can enjoy it once again. I have been trying to find the book of my grade school years that my teacher read to the class about the phoenix.

It was ok. My favorite was the encounter with the faun - perhaps it's because I'm a great fan of Mr. David and the Phoenix is a children's novel about a young boy's adventures with a phoenix. A dear friend sent me a hardback edition of this lovely little book.
